Sunnyside bank robbed

Yakima Federal robbed this morning

This morning (Monday) at approximately 9:41 a.m. the Sunnyside Police Department dispatched officers to Sunnyside's Yakima Federal Savings and Loan, located at 801 East Edison Avenue, following a 9-1-1 call.

A male subject reportedly robbed the financial institution and fled the scene, but bank and city employees were able to tell officers which direction the suspect ran.

Sunnyside police officers located the suspect at the corner of South Eighth Street and East Decatur, where they subsequently took him into custody.

Officers also recovered the money stolen from the bank but did not release further details as of press time.

Nine other thefts have been reported to Sunnyside police officers since last Friday. Of those thefts four were automobiles.

A 1999 Acura Integra was stolen from the 1400 block of Ida Belle Avenue at approximately 9:45 a.m. Friday, and at approximately 1:45 p.m. that day a 2002 Chevrolet Impala was reported stolen from the 800 block of Columbia Avenue.

Just after 10 p.m. last night (Sunday) a resident in the 500 block of Rouse Road found a vehicle that police discovered to be stolen, and at approximately 5:30 a.m. today a 1996 Acura Integra was reported stolen from the 100 block of West Parkland Drive.

An individual visited the police department twice this past weekend to report identity theft. Friday, the resident who lives in the 1000 block of East Decatur Avenue provided officers with information that his social security number is being used in another state, and on Saturday, the resident provided further details regarding the theft.

A battery was reported stolen from the 1500 block of East Lincoln Avenue Friday just before 11 a.m., a three-and-a-half foot statue of a bear was reported stolen from a residence in the 800 block of Grandview Avenue just after 6 p.m. Saturday and a stereo was reported stolen from a vehicle in the 2600 block of Yakima Valley Highway at approximately 6:15 p.m. that same day.

On Sunday, a business in the 1300 block of Yakima Valley Highway reported a shoplifter just before 1 a.m.

Two burglaries were also reported to Sunnyside police officer this past weekend. A television and checks were believed to be stolen in a burglary in the 100 block of West Parkland Drive just after 10:30 a.m. Friday, and unknown items were reported stolen from a business in the 1700 block of Morgan Road at approximately 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
