Yakima- teen shot in mouth

YAKIMA, Wash. -- Police say a 14-year-old boy who was shot in the mouth Tuesday night is "real lucky" for not suffering any major injuries.

The shooting happened while the boy walked along the 400 block of East Alder Street, north of State Fair Park, Yakima police said in a news release.

Police say the boy told them he felt a sharp pain in his mouth. A relative took him to a local hospital, after which authorities were alerted.

"The bullet apparently went through the boy's upper lip, broke a couple of teeth and rattled around for a bit," said Sgt. Mike Henne. "He was real lucky it was nothing serious."

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the Yakima Police Department at 509-575-6200.
